As we seek to improve schools in urban communities, we often overlook the voices that we most need to hear: those of families and students who are part of urban schools. Our unique conference strives to listen to those voices, by privileging those points of view. Join us for sessions led by many a host of voices – including immigrant parents, students in low-performing schools, English language learners, students with special needs, and students in alternative schools – as they share what they need in their educational experiences. This conference is designed to bring together all constituents involved in urban schooling: parents, community members, teacher candidates, practicing teachers, teacher educators and, most particularly, students themselves. Listening to the voices of those who often go unheard – parents and children – we aim to offer a unique opportunity to explore and advocate for equity, social justice, and change in our local schools. Join us!
